The Half Moon visitor tour
Before you go on the ship, you will be welcomed in the pleasant visitor center of the Center of Sailing Heritage. Here you can see and know everything about Hoorn and the water. What was life like for the fishermen on the former Zuiderzee? What kind of city was Hoorn in the 17th century?
After the reception in the visitor center it is time to explore the Half Moon! Guided tours are given on the ship, but you can also go on a voyage of discovery with an audio tour at regular intervals.

Guided tour
You can join the guided tour at 13.00, 14.00 or 15.00. Our enthusiastic volunteers will then take you through the entire ship and tell you in four stages impressive stories about the sailor life in the Golden Age.

Audio tour
At the beginning of the afternoon (between 12.00 and 13.00) and at the end (between 16.00 and 17.00) you can make use of the audio tour. This allows you to discover the different parts of the ship at your own pace. The audio tour is available in Dutch, German, English and French.

Families with young children
There is a special pass-through audio tour for families. With this you can watch and discover with your child (ren). They can also perform nice assignments. This tour is especially suitable for young children, for whom a regular tour may be too long.

Year theme
Every year there is a new annual theme. This way new things can be discovered and a repeat visit to the Half Moon is interesting. In 2019 the ‘Golden Age’ is central. We talk about the first life of the Half Moon and trade on the Baltic coasts, the well-known voyage of skipper Henry Hudson, his visit to America and the indigenous people and finally the trade in East Indies, where the Half Moon was the last years of her life before she went to Java in 1618.

De Halve Maen is a historic ship and therefore unfortunately less suitable for buggies and people in wheelchairs.
It is not allowed to take a dog on board, the other visitors can suffer from it and there is not much space on board. You can, at your own risk, tether your dog to the visitor center, or at the ship’s jetty. However, once there is a nuisance, a boss must accompany the dog again.

Please note that parking is not available at Halve Maen. Are you having difficulty walking? Then you can be dropped off by car on the Oostereiland near our visitor center. Make an appointment via or 06-22690540.
Suggestions for parking; on the Westerdijk or the Visserseiland (both paid for) or further away at ABC and Nieuwe Wal (free). Tip: pick up from your parking place by the Watertaxi and make a nice trip through the harbour!
